#0 Hackathon

December 27 @ 23:00December 28 @ 01:30

Free

The Hackathon #0 goal is to answer this question: How might we collect, verify and host, and share climate data in a scalable and sustainable way?”

We will come up with several competing propositions that will present technical choices, system designs, roadmaps, and strategies. It will also be an opportunity to build a team and identify the resources needed to scale.

Deliverables: what we make

Demo: Show (“fake” working) Figma

      1. Upload data (cybersecurity) | Explore data | Share data
      2. Data Verification & Governance
      3. Data Indexation & Search
      4. Data Processing, Visualization, AI models

Slides: Tell (explain how it works) Google Slides

    1. Technical preferences: servers, database, languages, communication standards,  file format etc. with argument on choice of tools
    2. AI, Energy efficiency
    3. Business model for scaling with financial sustainability
    4. Education, media and community building strategy
    5. Roadmap
    6. Proposed Team Structure
    7. Intellectual Property and legal structure

Who: Participants

    1. Climate scientist, environmental engineer, Citizen Scientist, Community Scientist
    2. Hardware & software engineering, system architect

Criteria: Climate Impact through collaboration

10 pts Open Who can upload, process, and use the data? What part of the process is open? Are the community and practices inclusive? What licences are used?
25 pts Verified How do you verify the data? How do people know the quality of the data? Is the data decentralised? What is the governance model?  how is good behaviour, incentivised and bad behaviour dealt with?
20 pts Useful Are the services / products easy to use? What kind of data are people interested in? Archive data? Real time feed? Future data? Can people easily find relevant data? Can they visualise and manipulate (compute) data on the website? Can they associate their own data set on our website? Does the service helps produce insights, inform decision making?
10 pts Scalable Can the data be scaled and still work smoothly as it gets bigger? Can the same data be translated in different formats to cater to different industries?
25 pts Sustainable How do we generate revenue? What is the business model to scale this data in a sustainable way? How much energy, water, natural resources do we use?
10 pts Safe How safe is it to be in the community, upload, process, and use the data? Can members be anonymous? How do we maintain diversity and ethics? How robust is our infrastructure to censorship?
